Citi Extends Sign-Up Bonus Windows, Alters Prestige Rule-NerdWallet

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Citi is granting more time for new credit card holders to meet minimum spending requirements to earn a bonus and is making it easier to use the $250 credit that comes with one of its high-end cards, the Citi Prestige® Card.

    Sign-up bonus offers extended

Citi is extending for three months the time new cardholders have to meet a minimum spending requirement to get a bonus. It applies to all new cardholders who opened an account between Dec. 1, 2019, and May 31, 2020. That’s a retroactive enhancement for some cardholders whose window of opportunity to meet the spending requirement has already closed.

The extension does not apply to offers related to promotional APRs, balance transfers or other pricing terms.

“At Citi, we are committed to ensuring that our cards continue to drive value for our customers during these challenging times,” Citi said in a statement. “We know that our customers’ spending habits have changed temporarily due to the current landscape.”

    Citi Prestige $250 credit

Citi is temporarily expanding the categories of purchases that qualify for the $250 travel credit benefit on the Citi Prestige® Card.

Between May 1, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2020, cardholders can use the credit toward purchases at supermarkets and restaurants, including takeout — in addition to the usual travel spending.

Citi said it will monitor the pandemic situation and explore “ways to deliver appropriate accommodations to our cardmembers.”
