7 Struggles Only People Married To SPENDERS Will Understand

(The following is a transcription from a video Linda and I recorded. Please excuse any typos or errors.)

Today we are talking about seven struggles that only people married to spenders will understand.

And in our marriage, I (Bob) am the saver in our house. Linda is the spender in our house (and she’ll be the first to tell you how she’s the spender).

If you didn’t catch the other video we did, seven struggles people married to savers would only understand, you should check that one out, as well.

And, if you want to watch our discussion of the 7 struggles only people married to spenders will understand, you can do so here:

    1. Spenders Will Always Find A Reason To Spend

Bob: Spenders always find a reason to spend, whether it’s a good day.

Linda: Spenders always find a reason to celebrate.

Bob: But then also, it’s a bad day so I need to go spend some money.

Linda: We need to, yeah, make this day better.

Bob: And it’s donut day so we need to go spend some money.

    Linda: Have to get donuts.

Bob: It’s Lincoln’s birthday so we need to go spend some money.

Linda: Oh we got to celebrate!

Bob: There’s always a reason. There’s always something to celebrate and some reason to go spend some money.

    2. They Have No Idea How Much Stuff Costs

Bob: Number two is that they buy stuff and they have no idea how much it costs. And all the savers out there watching this, you know, you’re thinking like I am, how is this even possible? How do you buy things and not know how much it costs?

Linda: I mean, it just doesn’t… That’s not important. In our minds, there are other things that are more important than how much it costs at the time.

Bob: All right. Well, before we go any further, if you’re new here, what we do on our channels help you master your money by providing practical tips and biblical principles on how to master it. 3. They Don’t Have A Problem Going Into Debt To Get It Now

Bob: So number three is that they don’t have a problem going into debt to get it now. Linda is a reformed-

    Linda: I am reformed.

    Bob: Can we say reformed?

Linda: Yes. I changed my ways.

Bob: So as we’ve gotten married, as you can see from the other video, yeah, we’ve merged and we found this healthy balance and we both improved on our weaknesses. And this is one for you, right?

Linda: Yeah. And we’ve used our strengths to help the other one, right?

    Bob: Exactly.

Linda: I did not have any problem going into debt to have what I want, but I’m glad I don’t do that anymore.

    4. They Buy Stuff Without Researching

Bob: Number four is that they buy stuff without researching to determine if it’s actually the best value. So one of my favorite instances of this was when you bought, what did you buy from that infomercial?

    Linda: The magic bullet.

Bob: Bought the magic bullet, now they sell it in stores. But at the time, what’d you bought, a three pack of them or something? When we were spending like $10 a week on groceries.

Linda: Well, it was so much cheaper. The deal was so much better if you bought three packs. And I wanted to give one to somebody, okay?

Bob: So yeah. So we were giving, it was a generosity play.

Linda: After that happened though, Bob quickly went on the internet and went, “You could get this cheaper at this place, this place, and this place.”

Bob: Yeah. And I think that’s the point, that a lot of spenders just, “I see it, I like it, I have no point to research, I’m just going to buy it.”

Linda: I think the reason for this is because a lot of it is just the experience. And once we have to go research it to death, it’s not fun anymore. And I don’t want it.

    Bob: Okay. Got it.

    5. They Have No Problem Using The Mortgage Money To Go On Vacation

Bob: Number five, they have no problem using the mortgage money to go on vacation. Now, again, you’re reformed in this area. You are great.

Linda: Yes. I don’t do that.

Bob: You do not spend our mortgage money on vacation. But I do know that this is definitely a tendency of spenders, hardcore spenders. It’s like vacation is higher priority than mortgage.

Linda: If I weren’t reformed, I would definitely feel that way.

    6. They Literally Cannot Walk Into Target Or Lowe’s Without Buying Something

Bob: All right. Number six is that they literally cannot walk into Target or Lowe’s and not buy something.

Linda: Okay, so Target for me, Lowe’s for you.

Bob: It’s whatever that store is. But in our cases, those are probably the two.

Linda: Again, it’s because you need to celebrate everything.

    7. They Don’t Know Or Care When A Cashier Charges The Wrong Amount

Bob: So number seven is that they don’t know or seem to care when a cashier charges them the wrong amount on something.

Linda: Oh yeah. That is definitely me. It’s not on purpose.

Bob: Yeah. I don’t get it. I don’t get it.

Linda: It’s more because we just don’t notice.
