12 Laura Street, Highgate Hill
A house in one of the city’s most sought-after school catchments has sold under the hammer for $1.49m just five days after hitting the market in what could be one of the fastest auction campaigns in the country.
The owners of 12 Laura Street, Highgate Hill listed their property with Place agent Michael Hatzifotis within four hours, after falling in love with another home.
“The owners are moving interstate, and they need their house sold on Sunday so they can bid on the property they want to buy on Tuesday,” Mr Hatzifotis said.
“They called me at noon yesterday. We got the photographer there in two hours, and the property was live the same afternoon.”
“I was in total shock at first because I’ve never done a campaign like this. But then I was like, ‘you know what? We can do it’.”
The owners need to sell to bid on another house
The house is on a 405 sqm block in a sought-after area
Records show the owners purchased the house for $595,000 almost 12 years ago.
Now, it’s all systems go so they can secure their dream home ahead of a sea change – and Mr Hatzifotis said the house was already gaining traction, thanks to its location in one of the city’s “most desirable suburbs.”
While auction campaigns typically run for three to four weeks, the 1930s-built four-bedroom home has drawn strong interest from families seeking a residence in the coveted Brisbane State and Dutton Park State High School catchments.
The property sold at auction on Sunday after attracting 36 bids — mostly from singles.
“Highgate Hill has been one of the most popular suburbs with buyers in the last couple of months,” Mr Hatzifotis said.
“The school catchment is a key factor lending itself to a quick sale, but also the home is in a non-flood area and on a 405 sqm block, which are very hard to come by.”

Positioned in a quiet, elevated street close to the city, public transport, and the vibrant West End precinct, the home blends character with modern comfort, featuring an open-plan layout over two levels.
Features include high ceilings, polished timber floors, a sunroom, and a multipurpose room, while a new owner could potentially raise the house to capture city views.
A whirlwind five-day campaign means there’s no time for second-guessing. Interested buyers will need to act fast as agents ramp up marketing via social media, letterbox drops, and direct outreach to those who recently missed out on nearby properties.
No time to sort out the tools
Inspections will be rapid-fire over two open-home dates this week, and come Sunday, the hammer will fall on what is shaping up to be the year’s shortest auction campaign.
PropTrack data shows the median price for a four-bedroom house in Highgate Hill has surged 51.4 per cent over the past year to $2.8m.
