Former Wallabies Captain Stirling Mortlock AM and wife Caroline are relocating from the NSW Southern Highlands to Melbourne, with their Burradoo home just listed for sale.

Having bought the property at 16 Toongoon Road in 2018 to make a tree change from Sydney and be closer to family, the couple have since undertaken a significant renovation to better suit their family requirements and lifestyle.

“Built in 2009, the house originally had four bedrooms and a closed-off layout which didn’t work for us as a family,” the Morlocks said in a press release.

The home is on a large 2,446sqm block.

They planted hedges, fruit and ornamental trees which have since matured.

“We remodelled the floorplan to add a fifth bedroom and extensive open plan kitchen living area, which now flows to a 60sqm deck making the perfect space for entertaining.

“Upon moving in we planted hedges, fruit and ornamental trees which have since matured, and together with the level lawns make for a low maintenance garden, despite being a large 2466sqm block.”

Records show the couple paid $1,382,500 for the 2010-built, four-bedroom house.

It sits on a 2446 sqm land parcel, not far from Caroline’s parents.

They have listed the property with Sarah Burke of Di Jones for a November 30 auction with a $2.25m price guide.

The couple remodelled the floorplan, to create a large open-plan kitchen and living area.

They also added a fifth bedroom.

It was Di Jones that sold their Pymble home in 2018, which fetched $3.8m.

During an extensive 15-year rugby career Stirling played 80 test matches for the Wallabies, including 29 as captain, and also captained the ACT Brumbies and Melbourne Rebels.

He was awarded Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for service to rugby in 2012.

The interstate move was prompted by the opening of a new office in Melbourne for Stirling’s expanding sports advisory and investment firm, XV Capital, which he co-founded.

With the Mortlocks’ youngest child just about to complete their HSC the timing also works well on a family level.

The living area flows to a deck.

The agents expect buyers will fall in love with the property.

“Our family spent a lot of time in Melbourne when I captained the Melbourne Rebels in 2010, and we are excited to be returning to the nation’s sporting capital and re-uniting with old friends,” said Stirling.

As the Mortlock’s agent, Sarah Burke is anticipating plenty of interest in the property, saying: “Whether families or rural/acreage downsizers, potential buyers will fall in love with Caroline

and Stirling’s beautiful home – especially its north-to-rear aspect and spacious, contemporary floorplan which lends itself to modern family life as much as it does to stress-free entertaining.”
